Elton John - Someone saved my life tonight - Live in Ephesus

Folks,

When I was growing up, I played this song over and over. Back then, I couldn't pinpoint why but something about Elton John's "...you nearly had your hooks in me, didn't you dear..." just hit home.

Years later, it dawned on me that had I not made a decision to leave home and some people behind, I'd have been like one of Elton's drugged out friends in the 1970s "rolling round the basement floor"... figuratively speaking, of course.

Someone did save my life and I wouldn't be where I am today had I not changed the course of my life the way I did all those years ago.

Thank God for all the broken roads and paths, which have led me to this place today.

Why is ur nickname Ninja?

Because I'm always watching from somewhere, and like a chameleon, I blend in so that I can keep observing and responding accordingly.

You know what? You are like a Ninja- you're always darting in and out and I always enjoy your comments wherever I read them. Don't know what I've never been over to this blog before. Guess I just always thought of you as "the guy with all the good comments." I'm so glad I decided to pay you a visit. I come over here and see one of my fav songs posted. It was an important one in my life, too. But do you know the reason Bernie Taupin wrote it? Cause I do, if yo'd like to hear it and it's an awe-inspiring tearjerker (to me anyway)

Hi Patricia, thanks for dropping in. I read somewhere that it was during his drug-fuelled days in the early 1970s when things got really out of control. So bad that one night in a stupor he tried to kill himself by sticking his head in an oven to gas himself... and then something told him to back off. Someone did save his life that night.

The lyrics resonated with me because my family was not very supportive of me in my younger years and I knew I had to leave a lousy situation to give myself a chance in life. There were many nights when that song tore me up. Still does.

Wow. I heard something completely different. He was engaged to a girl who tried to convince him to give up writing and make a 'real living.' She wanted the babes, the nine-to-five hubby, the whole works. He nearly did it, but realised she couldn't possibly love him if she wanted him to be someone different than he was. And can you imagine a world without these lyrics? Well, either story works for me. And I've been where you were in your younger days.You were rightto leave. We both were. I'm glad I'm in such good company.
