Stop molly-coddling the youngsters!

Those are both really horrific stories. My daughter counts the Ermington boy in her group of friends!!!! She and her friends are stunned at his behaviour as they say "he is not like that". I don't suppose we can ever know what our friends are truly like but this has been an eye-opener to her and rather shocking news to me.

It never surprises me when these kids (they are still kids if they are under 21, no matter how physically big they are or how glib they sound), are forced to grow up so quickly and behave like adults ala. alcohol, swearing, being laddish etc.

These kids have had no expectations put on them, therefore they have no idea what's acceptable and what's not. The only time they get a clue is when the cops get them. In most cases, that's already way too late.

Comes back to drop-kick parents who themselves have no idea about what they're doing ie. the damage they're doing to their kids in the misguided notion that they're being cool parents by letting them be.

It is hard to grasp what has happened here. This boy (allegedly) comes from a good home (not a broken one), went to a good school and (allegedly) has not been in trouble before. We can only ever base our perceptions on what we "see" and I suppose most of us present a very different face to the world to what might be the case "behind closed doors".
